Nationaal programma voor het behoud van het papieren erfgoed

Archives and Collections

Metamorfoze finances the conservation and digitisation of archives and collections containing unique material of national importance and subject to decay. After the archive or collection has been conserved and digitised, the paper original can be stored, the digital copy is published online and the master files are stored sustainably.

Carrying out the project

The project is carried out by the heritage institution with support of Metamorfoze and the KB. The heritage institution is responsible for the publication of the digital copies of their collection. If necessary, the KB ensures the long term storage of the digital master files.

Conditions and financing

A number of conditions apply to the institution and the archive/collection. Please contact Metamorfoze to discuss these conditions. The financing of the digitisation is based on a fixed price per page, which depends on the complexity of a project. The cost of publication of the digital copies is borne by the institution.

Suggested topics

Suggested topics for new applications are migration, missionary work, church history, landscape and infrastructure, rural history, poor relief and music history. Applications about the history of slavery and colonial history have first priority. However, institutions remain free to submit archives and collections according to their own priorities.

Assessment of project application

Once a year (in December), the Advisory Committee meets to assess the project applications. They base their assessment on an assessment framework.

Submitting a project application

Are you interested in a project application? Please contact one of the coordinators first.

The documents (in Dutch) you need to submit an application can be found under 'Archieven en Collecties' on the page Documenten.
